Internship at The Theatre Practice
During my internship at The Theatre Practice, I worked closely with the stage management and production teams across several productions and live events. I was involved in different stages of the production process, from rehearsals and pre-production preparation to performances, bump-ins, bump-outs, and backstage operations. These experiences strengthened my stage management, problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability skills while giving me valuable insight into the professional theatre industry.
Projects and productions I was involved in:
Lao Jiu: The Musical 《老九》音乐剧
February 2026 - April 2026
Stage Crew (Stage Management Team)
On my first day of internship, I was immediately brought into rehearsals and remained with the production through bump-in, the show run, and bump-out. I assisted in preparing rehearsal reports, props lists and running lists, and managed props, set pieces, and scene changes for the show.
96.3好FM “好想跟你唱”
25th April 2026
Lyrics Operator
Created separate lyrics slide decks using Microsoft PowerPoint for both the audience sing-along and the performer's teleprompter. As both outputs required independent operation, I coordinated two laptops simultaneously to ensure the lyrics remained synchronised throughout the event.
RV70morrow《七十•启示》
April 2026 - May 2026
Stage Crew
Crew in charge of one of the performance venues (立德门 Courtyard) in River Valley High School for their 70th anniversary promenade theatre performance. Managed student performers and oversaw all the holding rooms and costumes alongside the production team. For the venue I was in charge of, it was an outdoor dance item by the JC Chinese Dance and Street Dance students, accompanied by RV's Chinese Orchestra. I coordinated performer movement, helped check the students' costumes before they left their holding room for standby, and ensured they were performance-ready before going on stage.
Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming 《记忆游泳池》- SIFA
May 2026
Stage Crew
Provided production support throughout the event by preparing audience seating using pool floats and setting up headphones for the audience to listen to conversations between Artistic Director Kuo Jian Hong and the invited guests, who were Tan Kheng Hua (15 May 2026), Ivan Heng (16 May 2026), and Yeo Yann Yann (17 May 2026).
This project allowed me to showcase my problem-solving skills during set-up. The electric blower that I was supposed to use to inflate the pool floats had broken before the first show; it would overheat within 30 seconds of use. The biggest inflatable we had was a rubber boat, which had a different opening from the other pool floats, which meant that the manual air pump we brought with us in case of this situation could not inflate the rubber boat. I quickly adapted by modifying the manual pump using tape to create an airtight seal and successfully inflated all the floats before the audience arrived.
The Nursery Rhymes Project 4 Official Launch
June 2026
Lyrics Operator
Operated lyrics projections during the official launch and coordinated cue timings for each visual with the Artistic Director to ensure smooth delivery throughout the performance.
Here Comes The Breakfast Kakis: Imagine Our Songs! 《早餐家族来咯: 儿歌说故事!》
June 2026 - July 2026
Surtitle Operator & Crafting Assistant
Prepared and updated surtitle slides based on the director's and producer's notes throughout rehearsals and the show run. I also prepared audience pre-show craft activity materials, 30 metres of fabric for each show. During the activity, children would tear the fabric into strips and tie them onto a rope to create a bunting decoration that later became part of the show's set.
